Take a Walk Outdoors Day is January 20th!
Celebrate your freedom and access to the outdoors by enjoying a walk on this holiday. There is little information about the creation of today, but it does differ from National Get Outdoors Day, so don’t forget the ‘walk’ part. With our stationary habits these days, we forget that our bodies are meant to be exercised. Humans should be walking at least 30 minutes a day. For folks in cities, this seems easy. However, many of us drive door to door and don’t walk at all. If you have a dog, make sure to take them on an extra-long walk today.
If you’re feeling tired, upset, stressed, or just have a lot of energy, a walk is the perfect fix for you. There’s literal proof of the benefits walks have on your health.
What to do:
- Take a walk around your neighborhood, you might find some gossip on your neighbors
- Walk to get your morning coffee. Half a mile? 3 miles? Eh, you’ve got it
- Break in your new shoes
- Grab some headphones and take your conference call to-go
- Bring a bag and pick up some trash along the way
- If you have an evening ritual, combine it with a walk! Â i.e., drink a glass of wine, listen to a podcast, call a loved one
